Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which is your favorite cosmetics company/brand and why?
A: MAC is a cosmetic company that I admire for their innovative makeup artistry and products. With great quality with high pigments in all of the products they create, MAC has become a favorite to me.

Q: What, in your opinion, is one of the most important things to happen to the beauty industry in the past few years?
A: Mineral foundation, in my opinion, is the one of the most important thing to happen in the beauty industry. With people being more health conscious about their bodies, they have migrated to being healthy about their makeup as well. Using these products myself, I love the coverage and luminous finish it provides and the SPF protection. Brands like Bare Escentuals and Sheer cover are slowly taking over the foundation world and I for one can’t wait to surrender!

Q: Which beauty products can you not live without?
A: I cannot live without three things; moisturizer, foundation, and mascara. I would rather have a great complexion than smokey eyes or berry lips any day.

Q: What is your favorite beauty category (skincare, makeup, fragrance, etc)
A: Makeup would have to be my favorite category. Skincare and fragrance are icing on the cake…but makeup is my cake. I know it, breathe it, and read it, and use it.

Q: Which beauty/fashion websites/blogs do you read on a regular basis?
A: The website you will always see on my web address history is Sephora. Referred to as the candy store for makeup, I have a sweet tooth for the array of products they offer. A makeup in every flavor, there is something for everyone at Sephora.

Q: Which beauty/fashion magazines to you read on a regular basis?
A: What makeup magazine do I read on a regular basis? That’s easy, the makeup bible, Allure. Allure is in sync with all the trends so I never miss a beat. For both fashion and makeup, I read Glamour. You can still get your fashion fix without the intensity of Vogue, and get a dose of makeup too.

Q: What do you think is the most exciting thing to happen to the beauty industry in the past few years?
A: Lip plumpers have been an exciting product for me since I look at Angelina Jolie’s lips with desire. Using them have made my lips feel a little more Jolie-ish.

Get the Beauty Look

Sienna’s Sun Goddess Glow and Sultry Eyes

Golden Glow
Apply a light diffusing lotion, such as Revlon Skinlights, all over your face. Apply a liquid foundation also with light reflecting properties. Use a luminous concealer to cover any other imperfections the foundation could not conceal. Set with a translucent powder. To really glamorize this glow, skip the blush and use a Victoria’s Secret bronzer in Light for definition. Sweep bronzer across the check bones, forehead, temples, bridge of the nose and chin.
Smokin’ Eyes
To compliment Sienna’s green eyes, she used an Emerald Smoke eye shadow (from Too Faced Eyes of Envy palette) across the eye lids, staying close to the natural shape of the eye lid. Then using a puffy contouring brush, blend out the edges to so you can’t tell where the color begins or ends. Use a Too Faced eye shadow in Sheer Fire Opal to highlight the brow bone and inner corners of the eyes. Finally, take a kohl eye pencil to line the upper and lower lids, slightly extending to the outer corners. Now smudge for the smokin’ effect. Finish the look with two coats of mascara with focus on the outer lashes.
Nude Lips
To complete Sienna’s look, use a nude gloss with a hint of shimmer like Bare Escentuals Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Polish in Amber. To add a little color, use Bare Escentuals Quick Stick in Cinnamon to the center of the lips to take nude to the next level.

And Voila! You are glowing just as much as Sienna strutting down the red carpet.

Becoming Marilyn...

It was said that it took Marilyn Monroe took 8 hours to get ready for any event. She was infamous for taking hours to prepare for any event.  But who wouldn’t want to look like this salacious beauty icon? Good news ladies, we can do a Marilyn look without the hours of prep! Check out these four essentials that defined her look:

LINE LIDS
With a black liquid eye liner, lightly pull the eyelid and draw a line as close to the lash line as you can. Start the line with the inner corner and extend the line a ¼ past the end of the lash line. The line should be become thicker as it extends past the center of the eye lid. This cat-like effect creates a sultry eye that has a “come hither” look.

DEFINE EYES
Take a matte trio palette of neutral colors to create a defined eye lid. Brush the lightest color, such as a bone color, and apply from the brow bone to the lash line. Using a medium shade, like a light brown, and apply to the crease of the eyelid to enhance the slant of the lid. Extend the color slightly past the crease and blend back into the lash line. Take the deepest shade, like a coffee brown, and add to the crease for more depth. Now curl and mascara those lashes!

CONTOUR CHEECKS
Take a taupe or peach blush to create the contour of the cheeks. Contouring doesn’t mean to we have to mimic the 80’s striped blush. The easiest way to contour is to make a fish-face by pouching your lips. Then softly tap your blush, using a blush brush, just below the check bone and blend it out so that there are no harsh lines.

LUSCIOUS RUBY LIPS
A Marilyn look is not complete without her signature Ruby Red lips that seemed to hypnotize every man she encountered. Achieving a long-lasting berry lip is something every woman desires. You can do so by applying a light coat of foundation over your lips that will act as a primer for the lipstick to adhere to. Line your lips with a nude lip liner and slightly draw above the natural lip line. Fill your lips in with the lip liner. This makes lipstick last for hours. Then coat your lips with a ruby red lipstick using and lip brush. Now for the luscious part; apply a dab of gloss in the center of the bottom lip and on the cupid’s bow of the upper lip. This will make your pout look plumper.

Now take a look in the mirror! With a simple wink, you are ready to reel in some handsome gentlemen in old Hollywood glamour style.

Eyelash Overload

I wish everyday could be a walk down a runway, at least the makeup looks I admire. The makeup not only has me in a state but those wonderful false eyelashes that flutter across the models faces. It makes me want to go out and purchase a case load of false eyelashes to wear everyday. But who has the patience or let alone time to make that kind of commitment every morning, even is it does make us feel like movie stars?

The next best thing you ask? Finding a magic mascara to do all the work for you! Lucky for me, I found it and it wasn’t sitting on a gold pedestal in a department store but right under my nose and as attainable as can be.

Pump up the volume with Mary Kay Signature Ultimate Mascara ($15). With an extraordinary formula, this mascara helps you create fuller and longer lashes with ease. And with its Smart Wiper wand, it will distribute the perfect amount of mascara for the perfect false eye lash effect, without clumping.

Every woman wants those falsies, now every woman can, and all in one tube!

Blushing for blushes

NARS blush in Orgasm ($25)
A staple for every beauty bag, NARS famous Orgasm blush has caused quite a stir. Not only for its name, but for being such a versatile blusher for most skin types. Orgasm can be described as a peach with a gold shimmer. It can be used as a blush or a highlighting color.
I love this shade as is has a natural glow about it and is subtly glamorous. Allure loves this blush too and gave it Best of Beauty award. Easy to apply with its soft powder consistency, it is simple to build intensity for any complexion.

Neutrogena Soft Color blush in Soft Suede ($9.99)
This is a fabulous matte neutral shade that works for every look. A cinnamon shade with a velvet finish, you will always have a natural sheen. With a no-streak promise, it does just that to provide a soft veil of color to create a natural healthy glow. It is also formulated with pro-vitamins B5 and vitamins C and E to make skin more soft and supple.
To contour and define my cheeks, I use this color to give myself a sexy “Barbarella” look. One word for this shade, gorgeous!

Going Matte…

Fall, the time of year to put aside your shimmery bronzer and time to embrace velvety soft matte skin. Don’t be afraid to go matte…you can achieve a beautiful matte finish without looking like a powdered doughnut. To get the flawless fall matte look, follow these simple steps:
The key to this look is to moisturize! Be sure to apply the correct moisturizer for your skin type to ensure the longevity of your foundation.
Primer is always the next step in the foundation process, especially for the matte look. Not only can it provide you with essential vitamins your skin thirsts for but it also provides a smooth canvas for your foundation.
Use an opaque concealer to camouflage imperfections.

Note
Concealers that are more opaque are great for hiding blemishes, moles, discolorations and are long-wearing.

And finally foundation! To create this matte look, use a powder foundation that best suits your skin. Oily skin? Cream-to-powder or pressed powder foundations tend to work the best. Try MAC StudioTech or MAC Studio Fix foundation. Dry skins can wear this look too. Look for a mousse matte foundation. This will provide you with the right amount of moisture for your skin but will leave you with a matte finish. Try Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse foundation.

Note
Apply your foundation with a foundation brush or sponge depending on the form of foundation you are using. And remember to blend, blend, and blend!

To perfect the matte look, set with a translucent powder using a puffy powder brush or velvet puff to keep shine away!
